About this trip

Step into a landscape of ancient creatures, colour-shifting lakes, pink sand beaches and volcanic craters. The dreamlike islands of Komodo and Flores await you.

We’ll kick off our adventure in Bali, before heading to Flores, the ‘flower island’. Prepare for sunrise treks, jungle waterfalls and colour-shifting lakes in magical hues – this floral island is flowing with wild beauty.

From there, we’ll continue our journey to Padar Island, home to dreamy pink sands and warm turquoise waters. Kayak and snorkel around the coastline, before unwinding for a truly otherworldly sunbathing experience.

Our next destination is the legendary Komodo Island, the secluded oasis where dinosaur-like creatures are left to roam. Encounter these famed creatures in the flesh, observing them as they command their natural environment.

Touch-down in Bali

Flashpackers, welcome to Bali! A private transfer will be waiting to whisk you off to your boutique hotel, where you’ll meet your fellow Flashpackers and guide. Then we’ll head out together for a welcome feast at a local restaurant – bon appetit!

Day 2

Settle into local island life

We’ll kick off our adventure by flying over to the beautiful island of Flores. Taking its name from the Portuguese word for flowers, prepare to experience a lush oasis of natural wonder. After checking into your hotel, it’s time to unwind as you acclimatise to your new island surroundings. Come afternoon, there will be an option to explore the local village of Wologai, where you’ll have the opportunity to meet members of the Lio Tribe – swap perspectives and stories, learning about their vibrant culture and worldview. As evening sets in, we’ll gather for dinner at the hotel’s restaurant.

Day 3

Sunrise treks and crater lakes

We’re off to an early start this morning, as we make our way to the volcanic Mount Kelimutu for a fresh sunrise trek. Prepare to witness the dazzling sight of dawn breaking over the volcanic lakes, as daylight illuminates their magical colour-shifting hues – this is a truly wondrous natural phenomenon. Tuck into a special picnic breakfast, spread over the rocks with a breathtaking view of the valleys and craters below. We’ll then head over to Murukebak, where we’ll trek through the jungle to a waterfall. After lunch, the afternoon is yours to relax.

Day 4

Sunset hikes and twilight sights

The morning is all yours to explore Flores at leisure. Whether you treat yourself to a lie-in and relax by the pool, or head out to absorb the sights and sounds of this paradise retreat, this is the break you deserve. In the afternoon, we’ll fly over to Labuan Bajo, a fishing town located on the western shore of Flores, just across the water from Komodo. We’ll then head out for an epic sunset trek, soaking up the textures of the island’s natural life at twilight.

Day 5

Dragon encounters and dreamy beaches

This morning, we’ll speed boat across the water to the Komodo National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site of unspoilt beauty and wondrous wildlife. Here, you’ll encounter the famed Komodo dragons in their natural environment; observe them as they dominate the shores, a terrifying predator to the other animal inhabitants of the island. After a picnic lunch in the national park, we’ll head over to Padar Island for a light trek through the stunning volcanic landscape, before hitting the pink sand beaches. We’ll kayak around the rocky coastline, before snorkelling through the tropical blue waters to encounter a dazzling underworld of coral reef.

Day 6

Snorkelling with manta rays

From Labuan Bajo, we’ll sail to Manta Point, where we’ll disembark into the water to swim alongside the ghostly manta ray fish. Snorkel alongside them as they glide through the water, spreading their vast white fins like bat wings. Then we’ll sail onto a couple more islands, stopping by to snorkel around and explore their underwater habitats. After lunch on board the sailing boat, we’ll return to Labuan Bajo where we’ll tuck into a delicious barbecue dinner. Gaze up at the star-strewn skies with a cocktail in hand – the perfect end to an action-packed day.

Day 7

Rural life in Bali

Today, we’ll hop on a flight and head back to the Balinese town of Ubud, known for its rich cultural heritage and spiritual sites. After lunch at the hotel, you’ll have time to relax and settle into your new surroundings. Then we’ll head out for a local cooking class in Subak Guliang, a nearby village centred on traditional agriculture. Learn about their time-honoured farming methods, from rice irrigation to harvesting, and immerse yourself in the culture of rural Bali.

Day 8

Sacred sights and spiritual awakenings

This morning, start the day with an optional yoga session at the hotel, or alternatively enjoy a good lie-in as you prepare for your final day in Indonesia. Then we’ll head out to the 11th century Gunung Kawi Temple; wander through these spiritual grounds, losing yourself in the sacred architecture and shrines carved in stone. Prepare to wash away your sins as we continue to Tirta Empul, a Hindu-Balinese temple where worshippers bathe in holy spring waters to purify themselves inside and out. Come evening, we’ll head out for a final dinner, toasting to the epic adventure we’ve had.

Day 9

Goodbye, Indonesia!

After breakfast at the hotel, it’s over to you to make your own way to your next destination. If you’re not quite done with Bali, why not explore the island further with our epic Bali adventure? Or encounter the charms of Southeast Asia on our whistle-stop tour of Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia. Either way, it’s been an incredible journey.

  • Fly in and out of Denpasar International Airport. Please try to arrive before 4pm on day 1, although we will arrange an airport transfer for you and whichever time you arrive.
