Your Itinerary

  • Day 01 Uncover Reykjavik’s foodie scene

    Card image

Welcome to Reykjavik. Upon arrival, an airport shuttle bus will take you to your hotel in the city, where you’ll meet your companions and Pack Leader. Come evening, we’ll head out to a local gastro-pub for a three-course welcome feast. Iceland’s foodie scene is in the midst of transformation, with a new generation of chefs reinventing ancient staples – think dried fish, smoked lamb and rye pancakes, with a 21st century twist. After dinner, it’s time to hit the local bars along the high street and uncover the city’s famed craft beer scene. Get to know your fellow Flashpackers as you knock back the drinks, settling into the fine adventure ahead.

  • Day 02 Hiking in Thingvellir

    Card image

This morning, treat your hungover taste buds with a local foodie session, learning all about Icelandic produce and gastronomic traditions. From delicious tomatoes to geothermally-baked bread, this is an authentic taste of Icelandic cuisine from the perspective of local farmers. With a belly full of fresh rye bread, we’ll venture onto Thingvellir National Park. This is a landscape of otherworldly beauty, where shifting tectonic plates have created a rift in the earth that has filled up with lush valleys. If you’re a Game of Thrones fan, you’ll recognise this as the epic entrance to the Eyrie castle. As we hike deeper into volcanic terrain, encounter the bubbling geysers and hot springs scattered across the landscape. We’ll then make our way to Gullfoss Golden Waterfall, where the river thunders spectacularly over a sheer drop into the canyon below. In the evening, settle into your glamping tent for a relaxing night beneath the skies.

  • Day 03 Into the valley of Thor

    Card image

After a light breakfast and coffee, we’re heading into Thorsmork for a full day of hiking. Located in Iceland’s rugged highlands, this cavernous valley is named after the Norse god of thunder, Thor. This is a truly remote part of Iceland, and the only way to reach it is by 4×4. Sip a hot mug of tea – or even whiskey – to warm up before a long hike, then we’ll spend a good six hours hiking through the valley. Experience a spectacular landscape that lives up to its majestic namesake, with three rivers coursing through a black desert terrain, shielded by sheer, volcanic glaciers in all directions. The mountains of Thorsmork are cloaked in a fine mist, with lush flora and fauna blooming in the valley. This is particularly striking in summer, when the snow has melted and you can experience Thorsmork in its full splendour. After an epic hiking experience, we’ll tuck into a well-deserved dinner buffet at the glamping site, before gathering around a bonfire in the light on the midnight sun. Then soothe your muscles after a day of activity in the blissful hot springs, ready for another day of action.

  • Day 04 Canyons, rivers and waterfalls

    Card image

After breakfast, we’ll start the day with a gentle hike into Stakkholtsgja Canyon. Situated at the entrance to Thorsmork, this beautiful, hidden ravine is the gateway into the valley. Game of Thrones fans may recognise this as the site where Jon Snow faces up to the wights in season 7. Immerse yourself in the wilderness, with birds fluttering overhead and fresh mountain water flowing through the streams – perfect for a refreshing drink or quick dip. After our hike, we’ll enjoy a picnic lunch, before making our way to Seljalandsfoss waterfall on the road to Reykjavik. Admire the sight of the waters thundering over green cliffs; in winter, this is an icy barren landscape, yet summer brings a lush beauty to the area. Finally, we’ll arrive in Reykjavik, where the rest of the day is yours to do as you please.

  • Day 05 Blue Lagoon and goodbyes

    Card image

Enjoy your final breakfast buffet at the hotel, before we immerse ourselves in one last incredible experience. We’re off to the Blue Lagoon, a geothermal spa built into an 800-year-old lava field in the Reykjanes Peninsula. Sink into an immersive thermal healing experience – the perfect way to round off an action-packed adventure. Then, it’s time for your group transfer to the airport. What an incredible adventure: you’ve explored a magnificent landscape of volcanoes and glaciers; feasted on the delicacies of Reykjavik; and bathed in the soothing waters of the Blue Lagoon. What an excellent way to spend a long weekend.
