About your trip

Embrace the rhythms of jazz, the buzz of the French-quarter and the flavours of gumbo on this long weekend in New Orleans.

Few cities are as rich and multi-layered as this one; where African-American, Creole and Cajun influences intertwine to create a truly unique cultural landscape. It’s a given that you’ll explore New Orleans’ vibrant musical heritage and kayak through the Manchac Swamp. But you’ll also learn how to craft delicious new cocktails, visit a historical plantation and cruise the Mississippi on a steamboat.

Your Itinerary

  • Day 01 Welcome drinks & steamboat jazz cruising

    Card image

Welcome to New Orleans, the cradle of jazz. The city’s musical culture is simply legendary (no other word will quite suffice), and it’s equally famous for its voodoo roots and colonial French heritage. Meet your fellow travellers and guide over a drink at the hotel before you step aboard an old-world steamboat for dinner on the Mississippi River. A jazz band will set the mood with upbeat swing as you stroll the decks and absorb views of the twinkling city lights.

  • Day 02 Music, history & mixology

    Card image

This morning, you’ll continue your musical experience on a historical tour of the city. Your guide will talk you through the chapters of New Orleans, how jazz was born and how it evolved into blues and rock’n’roll. After lunch, you’ll have a few hours to explore the city at your own rhythm, before gathering with your group for a mixology class at a downtown bar. Learn how to craft new cocktails to add to your repertoire, then you’ll continue your exploration of New Orleans’ famous music scene with a live performance at Preservation Hall. The venue is intimate, rustic and brimming with southern character; every bit the authentic New Orleans experience.

  • Day 03 Swamp kayaking & local cooking

    Card image

Today, you’ll kayak through the swamps of New Orleans. With their twisting vines and drooping branches, the region’s bayous possess an ethereal, spooky quality (not helped by the presence of local alligators, no doubt). Spend the morning paddling alongside these fearful creatures in their natural habitat, before moving onto the historic Oak Alley Plantation. Dating back to the 1800s, there’s an atmosphere of unsettling glamour here. Dinner tonight will see you learn how to cook a New Orleans favourite: crab boil. The rest of the evening is yours to explore the caldron of bars found in the French Quarter, where music spills out into the streets until the early hours.

  • Day 04 Downtown sights & French Quarter strolls

    Card image

On your final morning, we suggest heading to one of New Orleans’ vibrant gospel churches for a truly local experience. What better way to encounter the city’s musical scene first-hand than joining in the singing? The rest of the day is yours to explore New Orleans at your own leisure, departing whenever you choose.
