Your Itinerary

  • Day 01 Buenos días, Lima

    Card image

Welcome to Lima. Upon arrival, you’ll be met by a private transfer, ready to take you to your hotel. Here, you’ll meet your fellow travellers and guide before heading out to explore the bohemian district Barranco by foot. From local handicrafts to stylish boutiques, you’ll find plenty to pique your interest on your first stroll through Lima. Spend the rest of the evening getting to know your fellow Flashpackers with a Pisco Sour in hand.

  • Day 02 Lima sights & highland beauty

    Card image

After filling up on a hotel breakfast, we’ll set off on our urban adventure through Lima’s vibrant downtown. We’ll slowly make our way to a museum in the city centre, which houses a collection of precious pre-Colombian artefacts. Once you’ve marvelled at the artistic heritage of Peru’s past, we’ll tuck into lunch at a downtown restaurant, before exploring Lima’s nature trails and soaking up magnificent views of the city. Then we’re off to the highlands. After touch-down in Cusco, we’ll head straight for the Sacred Valley, just in time for a delicious Andean feast. Then it’s time to unwind to life in the mountains. The evening is yours, so settle into your new surroundings and acclimatise to the high altitude. Feel the fresh air revitalise you, against the stunning panorama of the snow-capped sierra.

  • Day 03 Mountain-biking in the Sacred Valley

    Card image

Today’s activity? Mountain-biking the Sacred Valley. Once the heartlands of the Inca Empire, this is a landscape of winding rivers and deep valleys, crumbling ruins and snow-capped mountains. Your first stop: the archaeological site of Moray. One of the most mysterious sights of the Inca Empire, Moray is a large bowl-like compression with circular terraces descending deep into the earth. Next, you’re off to the Salineras de Maras, a town famous for its striking salt ponds – the remnants of an ancient system of salt cultivation dating back to pre-Inca times. After your historical mountain-biking expedition, a private bus will take you back to your hotel in Cusco.

  • Day 04 Hike from Chachabamba to the Sun Gate

    Card image

This morning will see you take the train up to Kilometer 104 on the Inca Trail, where you’ll follow a hiking trail through the mountains. Your first stop is Chachabamba, whose ghostly ruins are believed to have been a religious site, and the gatehouse to Machu Picchu. You’ll continue the ascent to a mountain waterfall: the perfect spot to enjoy a picnic lunch, with majestic views over the Andes. Then it’s onto Inti Puntu, the Sun Gate, which looks out onto Machu Picchu itself – and where today’s hike culminates. You’ll then catch a bus down to Aguas Calientes, a town renowned for its medicinal thermal waters. Lined with restaurants, boutiques and an artisanal craft market, this typical mountain pueblo brims with Andean charm.

  • Day 05 DISCOVER THE LOST CITY OF MACHU PICCHU

    Card image

Today, you’ll be experiencing Machu Picchu in its full splendour. Located at 2,430 metres above sea level, the lost Inca citadel looks out over the ridges of the Andes Mountains – you’ll see exactly why Machu Picchu tops most travellers’ bucket-lists. Your expert guide will talk you through the chapters of Inca history, then it’s over to you to explore the fortress at your own leisure. Enjoy lunch in the Lost City, then take the train down to Ollantaytambo, where you’ll have all afternoon to meander through this Inca town.

  • Day 06 Explore the Inca heritage of Cusco

    Card image

Today is yours to explore Cusco. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, this imperial city was the historic capital of the Inca Empire until the Spanish Conquest in the 16th century. Begin at Koricancha Temple, built in honour of the Sun God, before weaving through the Fortress of Sacsayhuaman and the deeply spiritual Qenqo Temple. Then, enjoy a free afternoon to do as you please, before gathering with your group for an evening walking tour.

  • Day 07 Andean flavours & Pisco Sours

    Card image

Today is all about Andean food. Start your morning in San Pedro Market, weaving through stalls lined with fresh produce and traditional textiles. After learning about local produce at the market, you’ll now turn your hand to transforming them into Peruvian specialities under the guidance of a professional chef working in the city. Follow this up with a session learning how to craft Peru’s national cocktail: the Pisco Sour. After lunch, the afternoon is yours. From galleries and museums to Inca landmarks, Cusco offers a wealth of culture to be explored. As evening falls, gather with your fellow travellers for a final feast, as the sun sets over the Andes.

  • Day 08 HASTA LUEGO, PERU

    Card image

Enjoy a final breakfast at the hotel, then it’s time to make your own way onwards to the airport. Not quite done with South America? Take a look at our hugely popular Chile itinerary. Alternatively, if you’ve got more time on your hands, why not extend this adventure with a trip to Bolivia?
