Day 01 Arrival in Reykjavík and welcome dinner
Welcome to Reykjavík, Iceland’s coastal capital and the gateway to its volcanoes and glaciers. You’ll be given a ticket for a minibus which will take you into the heart of the city, just a couple of minutes from your hotel. Meet your fellow travellers and guide, then head out together for a three-course welcome meal at one of the many characterful gastro-pubs. As darkness falls, make your way to the waterfront for the best views in the city – the Northern Lights may even make an appearance. Then, the rest of the evening is yours to explore Reykjavík’s lively craft beer scene.
Day 02 Explore the Golden Circle
Today will see you venture into the Golden Circle, a region of intense volcanic activity. Start your day in Thingvellir National Park, where shifting tectonic plates have created a rift in the earth, now filled with snow-laden valleys. Weave your way through bubbling geysers and thermal springs, until you reach Gullfoss Golden Waterfall. Admire spectacular views of the river thundering into the canyon below, then jump aboard a fleet of jeeps and head over to Langjökull Glacier. Here, swap your jeeps for snowmobiles as you venture out into the snowy wilderness (and if the weather is on your side, you’ll explore a magical ice cave en route). Then, back at your remote lodge, sink into the outdoor hot tub, with the Northern Lights (hopefully) dancing above you.
Day 03 Hike across Sólheimajökull Glacier
Head down to Iceland’s south coast today, where you’ll find black lava beaches extending to the horizon, and waterfalls and glacier tongues piercing the coastline. You’ll spend today hiking across Sólheimajökull Glacier, with a labyrinth of crevasses and ridges to explore. Your experienced guide will lead you through a series of ice caves and intriguing formations, then return to your lodge in time for a warming final feast.
Day 04 Blue Lagoon and departure from Reykjavík
On your final morning, immerse yourself in the geothermal waters of the Blue Lagoon. Set in an 800-year-old lava field, this unique spa is filled with milky-white water found to have healing qualities – an ideal way to soothe your glacier-pumped muscles. Feeling restored, catch a group transfer to the airport (or explore Reykjavík further, if you’re waiting for a later flight). Looking for an extension to your escape? Take a peek at our Finland itinerary (think reindeer and huskies).
Our Favourite Hotels

Hótel Lækur, Hella
Beautiful hotel in remote farmland with views of Hekla Volcano
The minimal décor of the ensuite rooms allows the views to do the talking: on a clear day you can see the top of Mount Hekla’s still-active volcano.
Why we stay here
Zero light pollution and an outdoor hot tub make for an unforgettable Northern Lights and stargazing experience.
Fly into and out of Reykjavik-Keflavík International Airport (KEF).
