Last week, we brought you news of the woman who quit her teaching post to travel the world and drink gin.

But if you too are a fan of the juniper tipple, don’t throw in the towel on your day job quite yet.

Because we’ve just discovered a particularly delicious gin-related treat right here in Britain.

While the rosemary and olive botanicals of Spain’s Gin Mare will always float our boat, and there’s a gin bar in New York with our name on (Bathtub Gin in Chelsea, in case you’re asking – and yes, it has an actual copper bathtub for guests to tumble into), it’s reassuring to know that a truly inspired gin delicacy awaits at our local supermarket.

G&T teacakes are the brainchild of Cheshire-based Roberts Bakery and comprise cocktail “fun buns” with a dash of gin, topped off with a lemony flavour.

Anyone for a G&T cupcake?

Neatly combining two of our favourite things – booze and bakes – the teacakes are apparently “delicious toasted and simply spread with butter for a brilliantly botanical bite”.

“There’s no denying that we’re a nation of gin connoisseurs with UK sales surpassing £1 billion for the first time ever last year,” Alison Ordonez, innovation director at Roberts, tells Chronicle Live.

“We soak our Fun Bun fruit in gin – making it juice and flavoursome for a delicious grown up bake.”

The gin bakes are available now at select branches of Asda, Morrisons and Co-op stores.

Perfect for that 11am pick-me-up.

And don’t forget, even if you do still have your heart set on a safari of the world’s best gin distilleries: a few packets of G&T teacakes makes the perfect suitcase snack, no?

… Let the gin adventures begin.
