Touchdown in Belize
Flashpackers, welcome to Belize! Home to lively green rainforests and idyllic island cayes, you’ve just touched down in a slice of Central American heaven. After landing at Belize City International Airport, catch your 15-minute domestic flight to the town of Dangriga in Southern Belize (we’ll send you the details of your flight booking ahead of time), where a transfer will be waiting to whisk you away to your rainforest resort at the foothills of the Maya Mountains. Settle in with a welcome drink, adjust to your new tropical surroundings in Mayflower Bocawina National Park, and get ready to meet your full Flashpack gang. Come evening, we’ll head to the resort’s much lauded restaurant to fork peppery bowls of ceviche or tuck into your first bite of Belizean seafood, before clinking glasses filled with belly-warming local rum to the epic adventure ahead. Expect idyllic views stretching over the canopied hills, plus plenty of excellent company.Read more
Waterfall hiking and zipline thrills
Breakfast can be a hearty affair in Belize; think Mayan omelettes stuffed with chaya (tasty jungle greens), and fry jacks topped with scrambled eggs, so take advantage of this morning’s feast, as you’ll need plenty of fuel today. We’ll kick things off with a two-hour waterfall hike that’ll take us into the jungle toward the roaring waters of Antelope Falls. Work up a sweat on the 1,000-foot climb to the top, then cool down with a swim in the jungle’s emerald green pools. If you’re feeling adventurous, now’s your chance to rappel down a 250-foot waterfall drop. After lunch, it’s time to fly along the longest zipline course in all of Belize. Speed through 2.5 miles of canopy-topping cables, taking in epic rainforest views. Finish the day with a delicious group dinner and toast well-earned sundowners.Read more
Escape to South Water Caye
Rise to the sounds of the jungle’s morning chorus, and enjoy one last breakfast in Bocawina. Today we’ll be swapping rainforest tropics for the idyllic golden sands of Belize’s South Water Caye. Jump aboard your 30-minute transfer to Dangriga, before hitching a motorboat across the 14-mile stretch of sparkling Caribbean ocean. Check-in at your remote island lodge and feast on a delicious Belizean lunch, explore the grounds, taking in sun-soaked views of verdant mangroves and palm-fringed sapphire waters. Spend the afternoon getting to grips with ocean kayaking and master the snorkeling basics, before joining your Flashpackers for an incredible sunset snorkel session over the Belize Barrier Reef – home to tropical fish, sea turtles, manatees and more. Afterward, dry off and tuck into dinner with a view of the Maya Mountains (poached snapper with mustard sauce is a particular favourite in these parts), before sipping on rum cocktails under a starry night sky.Read more
Paddle the Caribbean
Wake up in your island lodge and enjoy breakfast overlooking the ocean. Today we’ll be heading out for more sun, sea and snorkeling. Kick off the day with a paddle to nearby Carrie Bow Caye, home to a marine life research station, where kaleidoscopic wrasse fish, octopus and angelfish can all be spotted in the shallows. Explore more of Belize’s enchanting Barrier Reef, protected lagoons and mangrove ranges, before paddling back to dry sand for a delicious lunch. Come afternoon, crack the local art of coconut husking, and embrace beach life with snorkeling, kayaking and stand-up paddle boarding, or try your hand at hammock surfing. Regroup for Happy Hour to enjoy a rum as the sun goes down, before one last chance to feast on fresh Belizean fare. We’ll spend our last night sipping beers on the beach and dancing under the stars to sounds of Garifuna drums.Read more
