Day 1: The bright lights of Vancouver
Intrepid snow-seekers unite: here begins your Canadian winter getaway in the awesome city of Vancouver. Step off the plane and your private transfer awaits to take you to downtown Vancouver, where you’ll find your hotel near the BC Place Stadium (the home of the BC Lions Canadian Football Club), the trendy Robson Street and plenty of bars and restaurants. Your local guide will be waiting for you at your hotel, ready to whisk you and your fellow Flashpackers off for a welcome dinner and drinks. This vibrant city is the ultimate place to begin your winter adventure, home to the 2010 Winter Olympics, and beautifully located between the North Shore Mountains and the Pacific Ocean. Get to know your fellow adventurers over a few Canadian craft beers and make the most of this dynamic city. Tomorrow we’re wilderness-bound and heading for the mountains…Read more
Day 2: S’mores and moonlight snow treks
Today we’re heading to the snowy beauty of Sun Peaks, Canada’s second largest ski resort, with all the horizon-stretching views to prove it. Along the way we’ll cruise along coastal British Columbia and into the Thompson-Nicola region, passing by the city of Kamloops and up into Sun Peaks. As the sun fades, it’s time to gear up for a moonlight snowshoe trek through the forest. With the star-lit skies above and your guide leading you through one kilometer of snow-draped beauty on a maze of woodland trails, this is a magical way to immerse yourself in the winter wilderness. To celebrate our Narnia-like destination, we’ll gather around a roaring campfire and glug hot apple cider, alongside the hot gooey goodness of s’mores. Enjoy this quintessential Canadian experience as you relish the taste of fire-roasted marshmallows. Later on, settle into your cozy lodge just moments from the slopes.Read more
Day 3: Hit the slopes in Sun Peaks
The shimmering pistes of Sun Peaks beckon this morning, so grab your lift pass and get stuck in. Today you are free to roam the mountain as you please, making the most of the amazing slopes for a day’s skiing or snowboarding under the cast blue-white horizons. If you don’t want to carry your gear all the way to Canada that’s no problem; you can easily hire ski or snowboard equipment from the resort. There are also optional lessons on the gentler slopes, for those of you new to the sport. After a morning of slicing across the snow, we’ll meet at midday for lunch before getting back out on the mountain. Then, to get in the true spirit of ski resort life, we’ll meet again for some lively après-ski drinks. Get the mulled wine or coffee grog in and raise a glass to your day on the slopes. A well-deserved dinner is definitely on the cards; you’ll have a hearty appetite today, that’s for sure.Read more
Day 4: Snow tubing and a snowmobile safari
Today your snowy adventure continues with a snowmobile safari into the Sun Peaks back country. We’ll be going off the beaten path to cruise amid a vast stretch of snowy trails, discovering giant frozen lakes and cruising across endless white meadows. This is an awesome way to take in the unspoiled beauty of the Thompson-Nicola region, while getting that adrenaline pumping with a few revs on your powerful snowmobile. We’ll then head back to civilisation for lunch and the chance to relax in the warm, before setting out once more into the snowy wilderness. Ever been snow tubing before? We’ll catch the lift up to the awesome tubing course, where you’ll settle into rubber donuts and slide down the winding trails before you. This is a thrilling experience, as you curve down the lanes and race your fellow crew. Which Flashpacker has the best moves?Read more
Day 5: Ice skate like an Olympian
Bid farewell to Sun Peaks as we travel five hours west to the iconic ski nirvana of Whistler today. With the towering Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains looming on the horizon, this alpine hot spot was home to many of the 2010 Winter Olympics events, including the alpine skiing, ski-jumping, bobsleigh, luge and skeleton contests, to name just a few. After a full day’s drive, you can stretch your legs with a visit to the Olympic Plaza ice rink. Don your skates and embrace your inner Olympian as you glide across this state-of-the-art outdoor course in the heart of Whistler village. Surrounded by breathtaking alpine scenery with twinkling lights and Olympic rings, the setting here takes some beating. Next up, settle into your welcoming lodge and check out the steaming hot tub. Come evening, grab a taste of the local nightlife in your small but lively surroundings. Hang out in a cozy pub with your Flash Pack crew and one of the region’s famed caesar cocktails.Read more
Day 6: Your winter Whistler playground
Make the most of your Whistler winter playground with a free day doing whatever you please. For those of you wanting to hit the slopes, catch a ride on the Peak 2 Peak Gondola – the highest cable car in the world – for breathtaking panoramas, before skiing or snowboarding your way back down. Fancy trying your hand at some Olympic feats? The Whistler Sliding Center awaits to fulfil your sporting fantasies. Hop into a four-person bobsleigh as you zoom down the ice track, or plummet head-first with a spot of skeleton racing. There’s also zip-lining and bungee jumping nearby. Or you could take it easy, and eat and drink your way through Whistler’s generous clutch of bars, bistros and breweries. This evening, we’ll gather for a farewell dinner. It’s the last night of your Canadian adventure, so get those margarita pitchers in and see where the night takes you.Read more
Day 7: Snow place like home
It’s the final day of our adventure, and we’re heading back to Vancouver, stopping by the majestic Shannon Falls along the way. This evocative landmark, surrounded by forest and clouds of mist, is well worth seeing. We’ll then carry onto Vancouver, where you can either be dropped off at the airport before 1pm, or the city center. Alternatively, those of you wanting more time in Whistler can book extra nights and make your own way back to Vancouver. Either way, head back to reality on a high from your adrenaline-fuelled winter escape. You’ve snowshoed through moon-lit forest trails and feasted on s’mores and hot cider by a roaring campfire. You’ve skied and snowboarded your way down pistes in Sun Peaks and Whistler, and taken an epic snowmobile safari. You’ve experienced the highs of snow tubing and skated around Whistler’s Olympic ice rink. Fly home fuelled by a fleet of amazing memories and perhaps a new-found passion for bobsleighing…Read more
