Cuba group tours for solo travelers
Travel solo as part of a group tour to Cuba
Why travel solo to Cuba?
Faded glamour and old-world charm come together on one of the most beautiful (and misunderstood) of Caribbean islands.
Hanging out in Havana, you’ll quickly discover this is a country very much with its own playlist. Indeed, Cuba’s musical roots reach far beyond the Buena Vista Social Club, from salsa and bolero to its legendary jazz scene – the island’s musical heritage is second to none.
And Havana itself? A city of timelessness, whose time-worn architecture is best absorbed by losing yourself in the backstreets of the Unesco-listed Old Town, as vintage Cadillacs purr by. Or why not head out to the Trinidad, whose cobbled streets and red tiled roofs have remained unchanged since the sugar barons left in the 19th century.
While it’s true that Cuba is slowly changing, there’s still some way to go: internet is scarce and power cuts can happen. Travelling with a group is often preferable to going it entirely solo, so your local guide can steer you through inevitable bumps in the road and you can simply sit back – and embrace the adventure.
Top places to visit in Cuba
Havana
Crayola-coloured buildings, cobbled streets and Cadillacs – yes, Cuba’s capital is every bit the characterful city you’re anticipating. But it’s so much more besides: spontaneous streetside fiestas, late nights at La Fabrica, salsa dancing in sweaty bars and quirky paladar restaurants… Other city breaks just can’t compete.
Trinidad
With its jumble of tile-roofed houses, cobbled streets and colonial planters’ mansions, Trinidad has remained frozen in time since the sugar barons left in the mid-19th century. Easy access to mountains and stunning white-sand beaches makes it a great base for exploring, with the added advantage of some outstanding live music.
Bay of Pigs
Famous as the site of the botched-CIA counter-revolutionary invasion in 1961, the Bay of Pigs is now a place to indulge all your Caribbean island fantasies. With fish-tank clear water teeming with tropical fish, it’s become one of Cuba’s prime dive sites. Just remember to bring your snorkeling gear.
Zapata Peninsula
A vast shoe-shaped wetland of flat swampy grasslands, dense mangroves, underwater canyons and coral reefs, the Zapata Peninsula is a nature lover’s dream. Home to thousands of flamingos and migratory birds, you’ll also want to keep your eyes peeled for manatees and crocodiles.
