Morocco: Escape to Marrakech

About your trip

Lively, colourful and utterly enchanting, Marrakech is less a city than a sensory experience, vibrating with energy and culture.

From hectic medinas to rural mountainside villages, life here is as fast or as slow as you want it – and our four-day adventure spans the lot. We’ll feel the buzz in the souks of the old city, zipping down side streets on a vintage motorbike and marveling at the wonders of Jemaa el-Fna Square by night. We’ll take a breath with local cooking classes, peaceful hikes in the Atlas Mountains and traditional Moroccan hammam bathing, before finishing with a campfire feast under a star-filled desert sky.

At Flash Pack, we’ll take you to both the heart of the action and the off-radar delights, curating a line-up of Moroccan highlights you’ll never forget. A short trip leaving big memories, and all shared with new friends: are you in or are you in?

Your Itinerary

  • Day 01 A tasty intro to Marrakech

    Card image

Welcome to this dazzling city of color; we can’t wait to immerse you in the many charms of Marrakech. But first, we’ll be spiriting you from the airport to your quarters in the heart of town via private transfer – arriving in time for your welcome meeting with your Pack Leader and fellow travelers. Our next move is vital to any Marrakech adventure. We’ll head to the Unesco-recognized Jemaa el-Fna Square for its dusk transformation, the area thrumming with music, nightly shows and lively food stands. We’ll cap off our arrival in the Ochre City with our first dinner together: a three-course feast by candlelight in an atmospheric traditional Moroccan restaurant, toasting the fun to come with a glass or two of wine.

  • Day 02 Cooking in the Atlas foothills

    Card image

Today we’ll leave the city crowds behind, as we travel by private minibus to the sleepy village of Imlil, tucked away in the foothills of the majestic Atlas Mountains. Here, in a beautiful green valley at the base of snow-capped Mount Toubkal, you and your fellow Flashpackers will get acquainted with traditional Moroccan cuisine – such as spiced tagine and zaalouk cooked salad – by preparing your own lunch at a boutique lodge. Appetites sated, the afternoon is ours to hike on the peaceful valley trails, walking amongst abundant apple, walnut and cherry trees and marveling at picture-perfect waterfalls. Back in central Marrakech, the evening is yours to shop the souks or dance ‘til the small hours.

  • Day 03 Vintage sidecars & desert dining

    Card image

This morning, you’ll climb aboard a vintage motorbike for a sidecar tour of the city. Wind your way through the labyrinthine alleyways of the old town and cruise the modern district’s wide avenues, taking in the Moorish architecture, fondouks and the Palmaraie’s sandy groves. Offset the thrill this afternoon, with an invigorating traditional hammam. You’ll hardly know you’re in the bustling medina as you cleanse and refresh in a tiled bathhouse, indulging in the steam, soap and scrub of a centuries-old ritual. Rejuvenated and ready for our final dinner together, it’s a 45-minute drive to the magical Agafay Desert to dine by candlelight in a traditional Berber tent nestled in the dunes – an extraordinary last evening.

  • Day 04 Thanks for everything, Marrakech

    Card image

And now, it’s time to go: Marrakech is a sensory whirlwind, but we’ve squeezed in a taste of its many riches. If you’ve fallen hard for the Red City, you might want to stay on for a few more days of exploration. You could bolt on one of Flash Pack’s breaks elsewhere in Morocco, or perhaps a nearby escape in Spain, Egypt or Turkey. Whatever happens, you won’t be forgetting our colorful, pacy adventures in Marrakech in a hurry; from the majestic Atlas mountains to the serene Agafay desert to the central city hubbub, the highlights kept coming – not to mention friendships made and new traveler buddies to plan your next excursion with. Bon voyage.

Important Notes

Which airport do I need to fly in and out of? Plus airport code

Fly in and out of Marrakech Menara Airport (RAK).

What time do I need to arrive (in time for the welcome meeting)?

Before 4 pm ideally. The welcome meeting and dinner will be from 6pm starting at the hotel, around 20 minutes away from the airport.

What time should my flight depart on the last day?

There are no activities planned for the last day, so leave any time you wish. The airport is approximately 20 minutes away from the hotel, and your Pack Leader can help you book your transfers the night before if needed.

Are airport transfers included?

If you arrive on Day 1 of your adventure, or you book pre-tour accommodation with us, your airport arrival transfer will be included. If you book alternative pre-tour accommodation or are arriving by another mode of transport you must arrange your own arrival transfer.

Arrival transfers are private to Flash Pack and will be in groups depending on flight times. Sometimes this means waiting in the airport for a short while until other flights have arrived.

We don’t offer a departure transfer as Flashpackers leave at different times of the day and many stay for extra nights. We will offer you support with finding a local taxi.

What level of fitness do I need?

Overall, this trip is pretty relaxed. There is a light hike of one to two hours in the Imlil Valley, suitable for most fitness levels.

We recommend having a read-through of the itinerary above, and getting in touch if you have specific questions on fitness.

Why do I need to print my travel documents?

There’s a chance that Marrakech Airport will not accept mobile versions of boarding passes (and other important documents). With this in mind, please ensure you have printed all boarding passes and other required documents to present alongside any mobile information you have stored on your phone.

What about Ramadan? Will it affect my trip?

Some aspects of your itinerary could change during Ramadan and the national celebration of Eid Al Fitr (the Festival of Fast-breaking) as many shops and restaurants will be closed. It will also be quite difficult to obtain alcohol during Ramadan – your Pack Leader will be able to advise.

What should I expect from the hammam experience?

Hammams are a traditional part of Moroccan culture, which many local people visit every week to relax, detoxify and catch up on the local news. Men and women have separate areas and within these areas you’ll undress in a shared room, store your clothes in a locker and be given a robe to wear (it’s usual to go topless, keeping on your bikini bottoms or underwear, but if you feel more comfortable keeping your swimsuit on, just let the attendant know).

First, you’ll relax on marble seats in a hot steam room, designed to open up your pores. Then you’ll be taken to a private room where your masseuse will apply black beldi soap (made from olive leaves and argan oil) all over your body, which they will then scrub off using a kess (exfoliating mitt) and you’ll be given an invigorating full body massage.

The process takes around 30-45 minutes and you’ll come out feeling refreshed, renewed and with the softest, cleanest skin you can imagine. Back in your robe, you’ll be taken to a shared room to relax and served a refreshing mint tea. Be sure to drink lots of water, too. It’s a good idea to bring flip flops, shampoo and conditioner and leave your valuables at home.

Will the itinerary change?

Please be aware that the itinerary, activities, and hotels are subject to change. These changes are rare but can happen with little notice due to availability, poor weather, seasonal changes, or other circumstances beyond our control – but we’ll always do our best to ensure it has little impact on your experience. From time to time, we may also make changes to your itinerary to try out new ideas and keep things fresh and exciting which we will always try and communicate to you.
