South America group tours for solo travelers

Travel solo as part of a group tour to South America

Take a solo group trip to South America and you’ll discover epic landscapes, vibrant cultures and legendary wildlife.

In Brazil, Rio de Janeiro boasts an iconic blend of mountains, beach and urban cool; Buenos Aires, Argentina exudes a classical elegance with a rustic touch; and Cartagena in Colombia brings together pirate histories and Marquezian beauty, all infused with a quintessential Caribbean charm.

Then, there are South America’s almighty landscapes. The Andes is one of the longest mountain ranges in the world, running along the western edge of the continent from Venezuela to Chile. The Amazon Rainforest is the largest of its kind on earth, covering huge swathes of the continent in lush, dense jungle. And the Atacama Desert? Said to be the driest place on the planet, this is officially the closest you’ll get to Mars.

South America facts

From cuisine to landscapes, here are a few things you should know about your group solo trip to South America.

South America’s population currently stands at around 440 million people, which extends from Colombia to the southernmost tip of Chile. The most populated country is Brazil, with 214 million people, and the least is Suriname, with around 500 thousand people.

Argentina is famous for its sensual tango and world-class wines. Travelers flock to Brazil in February to revel in its spectacular Carnaval festivities. Over in Peru, you’ll find well-preserved Inca ruins such as the iconic Machu Picchu.

Like Central America, the staples of the South American diet are rice, beans, corn and meat. Argentina is famous for its steaks, and both Argentina and Chile are renowned for their rich wine cultures. You’ll find colonial influences across the continent, too.

Ecuador offers a breathtaking natural diversity, spanning the Andes, the Amazon and the Galapagos Islands. Colombia is nestled between the mountains, the rainforest and the Caribbean coast.

The biodiversity of the Galapagos Islands inspired Charles Darwin’s theory of natural selection, such is the scale of the wildlife here. Alpacas and llamas are native to the Peruvian highlands, and you’ll find jaguars and countless monkey species in the Amazon.
