Trips to Kyrgyzstan

Why travel solo to Kyrgyzstan?

Weather icon What's the weather like?

Kyrgyzstan has a continental climate, with hot, dry summers and cold winters. In the lowlands, summer temperatures average around 82ºF (28ºC), while the mountains stay cooler — ideal for hiking and lake swims. Winters bring snow and sub-zero temperatures, especially in higher altitudes. Most visitors come between May and October, when the weather is warm, clear, and perfect for exploring the great outdoors.

Star icon Top three activities

1. Witness this centuries-old nomadic hunting tradition of Salbuurun with golden eagles, archers and Taigan sighthounds.
2. Kayak across the mirror-still waters of Issyk-Kul, the world’s second-largest alpine lake.
3. Horseback ride like a nomad through Chon-Kemin & Son-Kul’s forested valleys and high altitude grasslands.

Wine icon Top three dishes to try

1. Beshbarmak – Kyrgyzstan’s national dish of hand-cut noodles and slow-cooked meat, traditionally eaten with your fingers.
2. Lagman – Thick noodles in a rich, spiced broth with beef and stir-fried veg — the ultimate comfort food.
3. Plov – Fragrant rice slow-cooked with lamb, carrots, and onions — a celebration dish served with pride.

Top places to visit in Kyrgyzstan

Bishkek

Leafy, low-key, and quietly buzzing, Bishkek blends Soviet-era charm with a rising creative scene. Wide boulevards and bustling bazaars give way to mountain views, making it the perfect springboard into Kyrgyzstan’s nomadic heartlands.

Son Kul Lake

Remote, windswept, and wildly beautiful, Son Kul sits at 3,000 metres – a high-altitude haven where life slows to a yurt-paced rhythm. This is the place to ride horses, meet nomads, and sleep under endless stars.

Bokonbayevo

A lakeside village offering authentic nomadic experiences in a dramatic natural setting. Best known for eagle hunting demonstrations, where you’ll meet traditional berkutchi and their golden eagles up close.

Issyk-Kul Lake

Framed by mountains and bigger than it looks, Issyk-Kul is a natural wonder with serious presence. Swim, kayak, or just soak it all in – the lake’s alpine stillness and golden light are unforgettable.
