Top places to visit in Bolivia
La Paz
The world’s highest capital (3,500 meters above sea level) is a sprawling modern metropolis with a historic center at its heart. Don’t miss riding the cable car to El Alto for stunning views over the city and surrounding snowcapped mountains.
Lake Titicaca
Straddling the border between Peru and Bolivia, this large freshwater lake is said to be the birthplace of the Incas. Visit the islands of the Sun and Moon for ancient ruins and traditional Pachamama ceremonies
Salar de Uyuni
Once a vast prehistoric lake, now an otherworldly expanse of dazzling white salt flats dotted with cacti-studded islands and boutique salt hotels. When it rains, a thin layer of water transforms the salar into a striking reflective canvas.
Altiplano
A high-altitude plateau in Bolivia’s remote southwest corner filled with extraordinary landscapes. Think bubbling geothermal pools; deserts strewn with wind-eroded rocks; and colorful lagoons home to vast flocks of flamingos.
