Trips to Uzbekistan
Why travel solo to Uzbekistan?
What's the weather like?
Uzbekistan hits its sweet spot in spring and autumn – and that’s exactly when we go. Our retreats run in May, June, September, and October, when golden light floods the Silk Road cities, the skies stay clear and blue, and daytime highs sit comfortably between 20–30°C (68–86°F). We skip the extremes – summers can top 40°C (104°F) and winters dip below freezing.
Top three activities
1. Meet a master spice blender in Samarkand and unlock the secrets of Silk Road flavour.
2. Shape and fire a traditional tandyr oven with local artisans, then taste traditional non bread fresh from the flames.
3. Craft your own folkloric puppet and learn master puppetry skills.
Top three dishes to try
1. Plov – Uzbekistan’s beloved rice dish, slow-cooked with lamb, carrots, and spices in giant cauldrons.
2. Manti – Steamed dumplings stuffed with spiced meat and onions, served with sour cream or chilli.
3. Shashlik – Chargrilled meat skewers served with raw onions and flatbread — a street food staple.
Top places to visit in Uzbekistan
Tashkent
old, bustling, and full of contrasts. Uzbekistan’s capital is where leafy Soviet boulevards meet vibrant bazaars, and Brutalist architecture sits alongside buzzing chai spots. It’s the perfect place to ease into Central Asia’s rhythm — sampling plov in lively markets, hopping between museums, and soaking up a city that’s more complex and compelling than first impressions suggest.
Khiva
A Silk Road stage set in real life. Encircled by ancient clay walls, Khiva’s old town is a beautifully preserved labyrinth of minarets, mosques and madrassahs in sun-washed tones. It’s where the past feels close enough to touch — especially at golden hour, when the shadows stretch long and the city glows with quiet magic.
Bukhara
Spiritual, soulful, and deeply storied. Once a center of Islamic learning and Sufi tradition, Bukhara hums with history. Artisan workshops fill its narrow alleys, and the architecture — all domes and courtyards — invites a slower pace. It’s a place to linger, reflect, and lose yourself in centuries of craftsmanship and culture.
Samarkand
Grand, legendary, and impossible to forget. Samarkand dazzles with scale and story — from the iconic Registan Square to its glittering blue domes and ancient tombs. Once the heart of a mighty empire, it’s where myth meets mosaic, and every corner whispers of caravans, conquerors, and timeless beauty.
