Where to go in January
From Brazil to the Philippines, Andrew rounds up the seven best places to welcome the new year. Cast off those January blues with plenty of winter sun.
Where to go in February
As the Northern Hemisphere moves into the bleak midwinter, think of it as your golden opportunity to seek out sun-soaked shores, be they in Costa Rica or Sri Lanka.
Where to go in March
March was the start of the year in ancient calendars, so naturally, this is a month in which many cultures celebrate the new year. From Holi in India to cherry blossom season in Japan, embrace a season of new beginnings in these beautiful destinations.
Where to go in April
With spring in full bloom across the Northern Hemisphere, April is a mild and pleasant time to explore many countries. Hike through Jordanian canyons abloom with wildflowers or lap up the gentle sunshine of California.
Where to go in May
With the anticipation of summer in the air, May might be the most optimistic month in the calendar. It’s a fantastic time to hike the volcanoes of Costa Rica, embrace May Day festivities in England or explore the Moorish heritage of Andalusia.
Where to go in June
Travel officially moves into high season in June, with many destinations stepping into their full vibrancy. Seek out majestic mountain gorillas in Rwanda, hike up Mount Toubkal in Morocco or relax on the beaches of Bali.
Where to go in July
Our suggestion for summer? Head for the Great Outdoors. The Rockies in Canada are more than ideal for refreshing days in the sun, especially with serene lake-waters to cool off in; and Australia’s East Coast is perfect for sea and sun in equal measure.
Where to go in August
Sri Lanka, Croatia, Cuba – all fantastic options for an August adventure. Andrew compiles the top attractions and events happening around the world at the peak of summer. Read on for the full list.
Where to go in September
September heralds the start of back-to-school season. The lack of crowds, lower prices and the first stirrings of autumn are all good reasons why this is prime time for solo travel. From hiking in Peru to enjoying the mild Sicilian sunshine, Anna rounds up the best places to visit in September.
Where to go in October
With autumn in full swing across the Northern Hemisphere, there are plenty of spectacular landscapes to be explored. Japan is particularly beautiful at this time of year, alight with golden and fire-hued trees. Read on for the full list.
Where to go in November
November begins with one of the world’s most unique festivals: the Day of the Dead celebrations in Mexico (for which we run a special itinerary). In other parts of the world, Iceland moves into Northern Lights season and Morocco gears up to celebrate Independence Day.
Where to go in December
While the Northern Hemisphere moves into winter, the Southern Hemisphere is brightening up with summer sun. Patagonia is particularly spectacular in December, with sixteen hours of sunshine bringing life to this vast hinterland. Colombia and Kerala are perfect for winter sun too.
