Spot the Big Five on a world-class safari in Kruger

WHAT IT'S ABOUT

South Africa’s largest game reserve, Kruger National Park, is home to the Big Five – lion, leopard, elephant, rhino and Cape buffalo. By far the best way to see it is on a spectacular game drive with your fellow group of solo travellers, ticking off luxury safari camps and endless wildlife sightings, in between stops for incredible sundowners.

You’ll venture out into the bucolic bushland on morning and afternoon game drives, before bedding down for the night in a luxury Kruger camp. Our particular camp is perched on land that’s owned and operated by the local Mdluli community, giving you an authentic front-row seat to all the exhilarating action of a classic South African safari.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT

Binoculars at the ready… An authentic escape from the frenetic pace of life awaits on our two-day tour of Kruger National Park. You’ll start by feasting on a traditional boma (outdoor barbecue) lunch before heading out on your first afternoon game drive. Your knowledgeable local guide will know exactly where to spot all the park’s creatures, depending on the season, so stay alert for action at any moment.

With more 4×4 safaris to follow, the chance of seeing a dazzle of zebras, a herd of elephants, a gang of buffalo or the likes of impalas, rhinos and wild dogs is tantalisingly high. Come sunset, it’s time for a hike to nearby Granite Rock, where you’ll enjoy 360-degree views of the park as it basks under a fiery red and orange sunset. Finally, what better way to toast the end of this experience, than with locally produced gin and Bushveld canapés?

WHAT OUR COMMUNITY SAYS

Flashpacker Harpeet Atwal loved the safari element of her South Africa adventure: “The safari stay in Kruger National Park was as incredible as I’d hoped. There were hundreds of elephants just wandering past our truck and we managed to see a lion, too.”

We stayed at a five-star, community-run lodge which really outdid itself,” she says. “We had luxury safari tents with delicious food and such a nice, friendly team with ties to the local Mdluli people. There was even an infinity pool where giraffes wandered past as you swam”.
