Abseil down Table Mountain in Cape Town
Your South Africa adventure starts here
Abseil down Table Mountain in Cape Town
WHAT IT'S ABOUT
Towering majestically over Cape Town, South Africa’s Table Mountain peaks at a lofty 1,086 metres, with impressive views of its surrounding national park, Lion’s Head, and the shoreline at the foot of the Twelve Apostle mountain range that runs along to Camps Bay. Most visitors hike or take the cable car up and down. But on this pinch-yourself adventure, you’ll get to experience a completely different descent with a group of fellow solo travelers –abseiling down.
Under expert safety and instruction, you’ll maneuver from the top, navigating a 112-metre section of rockface. As you glide down the rope, gently nudging on and off the smooth rock surface, you’ll get to encounter breathtaking sights and sounds below – birds chirping and waves crashing in the distance. The best bit? You’ll feel as if you have the mountain all to yourself.
WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT
You’ll save your energy for the abseil down Table Mountain by taking the cable car to the top mid-morning. From here, it’s a short 50m walk to your starting point. You’ll have a demonstration from the expert instructors before making your own way down the vertical drop via the two abseil lines.
It takes around 15 minutes and you’ll be cheered on the whole way by your fellow solo group travelers, leaving any jelly legs at the top. Once you reach the bottom, you’ll likely be filled with adrenalin, perfect for some oomph to tackle the half hour hike back up the mountain through the scenic fynbos (shrubland) to the cable car.
