White water rafting on the Pacuare River in Costa Rica
WHAT IT'S ABOUT
Prepare to become fully immersed in the Costa Rican jungle on this three-day Pacuare River white water rafting adventure. Paddling down one of the most spectacular rivers in the world, you’ll tackle Class II to IV rapids as you travel deep into the heart of an otherwise inaccessible part of the rainforest.
Surrounded by pristine nature, you’ll stay at a remote eco lodge looking out across the mountains and jungle of the Río Pacuare. You’ll spend your time relaxing, hiking and cooling off in tropical waterfalls, with the option to try the heart-pounding “Tarzan Swing” or zip line. With no WiFi or electricity, it’s a true off-grid experience where you can bond with your solo travel group.
WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT
When you go white water rafting on the Pacuare River in Costa Rica, you’ll be well looked after by your guides. As well as ensuring your safety on the river, they’ll prepare delicious fresh meals, point out exotic wildlife and may even teach you to salsa. The first day is a gentle introduction to Pacuare River white water rafting, where you’ll learn the basic commands and skills.
With fast-flowing rapids interspersed with slow tranquil channels, keep your eyes peeled for sloths, monkeys and exotic birds in the jungle canopy. Your secluded two person cabins feature muslin-draped beds and open-air screens instead of walls, so you’ll feel fully immersed in nature. You’ll journey out the way you came in, by rafting down the Pacuare. Expect an exciting ride with multiple rapids, waterfalls and riverside picnic stops as you paddle back to civilization.
WHAT OUR COMMUNITY SAYS
“Paddling down the Pacuare in Costa Rica is an adventure like no other,” says writer Laura Holt. “Anyone with a sense of adventure and a basic level of fitness can do it. That’s largely down to the experience and expertize of the guides. They give you all the skills and confidence you need to achieve this awesome experience.”
“I’ve traveled all around the world as a journalist and this really is one of the best, most exhilarating, experiences out there,” she says. One minute you’re feeling the bracing splash from a Class-IV rapid, the next you’re spotting sloths in the serene moments in between. The Río Pacuare really is one of the world’s best rivers for white water rafting.”
