Why travel solo to Peru?
Machu Picchu draws adventurers across the world with the allure of Inca intrigue, but this bucket-list destination offers a world of new experiences beyond the obvious.
Few images conjure the spirit of outdoor adventure like Machu Picchu – an extraordinary UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World. This rediscovered city in the sky is a testament to Inca ingenuity, a haunting reminder of the pre-Colombian past amid rugged Andean peaks. With something this special, we couldn’t let you miss it; which is why all five of our Peru adventures will see you hike to the Lost City.
The Andean highlands offer plenty more to explore, from the salt mines of Maras y Moray to the slopes of the Sacred Valley. Head to nearby Cusco for a trip back in time, where time-worn streets and elegant colonial architecture create an intriguing atmosphere. Add to this the wealth of Inca landmarks and striking highland scenery, and you’ve got a city like nowhere else on earth.
Whether you’re looking for a cultured escape with a dash of hiking, or a true mountain challenge, our five trips to Peru are curated to all styles of adventure – yours included.

Top places to visit in Peru
The capital of Peru is a must-visit for any foodie traveller. It has two restaurants ranked in the top 10 restaurants of the world and the sheer range of food available means your taste buds won’t be disappointed. From the magnificent Lima Cathedral to the bohemian area of Barranco, there’s plenty of cultural sightseeing on offer, too.
Formerly the historic capital of the Inca Empire and surrounded by ruins, what better place to immerse yourself in Peruvian history than Cusco. From the Fortress of Sacsayhuaman to the deeply spiritual Qenqo Temple, this part of Peru is particularly rich in history and culture.
This city in southeast Peru is also known as a gateway to the southern Amazon jungle. While many quickly head on out to Amazonian accommodation, there’s plenty within the city itself that invites you to linger. A beautiful plaza and dynamic nightlife, as well as the bustle of a busy city, encourage you to stay awhile before heading out to the jungle.
Situated amid snow-capped mountains and on the Urubamba River, Ollantaytambo is a picturesque village in the Sacred Valley of south Peru. It’s mostly known for a massive Inca fortress built with large stone terraces on a hillside. Historical sites within the ruins include a huge Sun Temple and the Princess Baths fountain.
