Supporting Morocco

Supporting Morocco in the wake of the earthquakes, September 2023

Our adventures to Morocco are running safely

Following the 6.8 magnitude earthquake in the High Atlas mountains region of Morocco, close to Marrakech, we're relieved to advise that all our community including customers, guides and partners are safe and well. Our thoughts go out to the people of Morocco and especially to those impacted by this situation.

In support of the relief effort, we will be donating £50 from every Flash Pack booking (to any destination) from now to the end of September. Our donations will support charities such as Amal (please read below for further information on how this charity is helping earthquake victims) as well as our much loved Pack Leader Hicham, who lost his home in the earthquake.

If you want to make a donation, we recommend that you donate to Amal via this link.

KEEP TRAVELLING TO MOROCCO – THE COUNTRY NEEDS YOUR SUPPORT

Whilst understandably a concerning time, it’s important that we continue to travel to this beautiful destination. Tourism sustains so many local communities, and to change your plans now would add another layer of devastation. If you’re already booked on to an adventure and worried about travelling, we’d strongly encourage you to transfer your departure date, rather than cancel, so you can simultaneously support and explore one of the world’s most spectacular locations. To put your mind at ease, we’ve added some FAQs below detailing how we’re ensuring the absolute safety of Flashpackers in Morocco.

FAQS

Is it safe to visit Morocco?

Flash Pack will avoid travelling to the Atlas Mountains meaning there’s no reason for you not to travel.

Flights to Morocco are still running at normal levels and all hotels that Flash Pack use have all been checked for any damage.

I’ve already booked, will my Morocco trip be cancelled?

We have canceled all trips up until the 8th October to ensure authorities can deal effectively with the immediate disaster. For our other October departures, we will adjust the itineraries as follows:

Starting from November, all trips will return to their regular schedules. If you have any enquiries, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our sales or customer experience teams.

How will travel to Morocco impact the local people?

Tourism is an important part of life for Moroccans, especially in the Atlas Mountains.

Tourism is one of the biggest sectors of the economy (7.1% of total GDP) and local people will need travellers more than ever in order to create more job opportunities. Travel is one of the best ways that you can show your support.

Would it be better to delay my adventure?

We will avoid the main affected area of the Atlas Mountains so considering the sites we visit on our Flash Pack adventure in Morocco remain unaffected and as beautiful as ever, there is no reason to delay traveling to Morocco. However, should you have concerns please reach out to our team at [email protected]

What is the Amal non profit charity?

A local charity, Amal are preparing meals for those affected by the quake in the hardest to reach areas. Please donate via this link. 100% of funds goes directly to the victims. Beyond meals in the longer term, they will be offering crucial assistance for those who have lost everything.
