About your trip

Are you ready for a taste of la belle province? Look no further than our weekend adventure to Quebec.

With its cultural vibrancy and spectacular alpine landscapes, this French-speaking stretch of Canada is a cracking place to escape to. In easy reach of US East Coast cities, it nevertheless feels markedly different, with vast wilderness playgrounds and a distinctly European air. Our action-packed adventure sees us zipline around the spectacular Laurentian Mountains, and canoe and hike our way through Mont-Tremblant National Park.

We’ll explore a wonderland of lakes and silver maple forests, looking out for golden eagles and white-tailed deer. We’ll dine on a decadent three-course meal in the heart of Mont-Tremblant and take a food safari through Vieux-Montréal. Come feast on bagels, poutine and craft beer as we ramble around some of the oldest streets in North America.

Bienvenue au Quebec. A few hours from many East Coast cities, you don’t have to waste a day’s holiday getting to Montreal: just come straight from the office on an evening flight. A private transfer will take you to your hotel, where you may still have time for a nightcap. One of the oldest cities in North America, Montreal is an ebullient mix of European and Canadian influences – with a distinctly Québécois spirit to boot. Its blend of cultural colours is felt everywhere, from the thriving restaurants of the Old Port waterfront to picturesque backstreet “ruelles” and converted industrial buildings. Quebecers are famously warm and the city has a strong creative tenor: writers, jazz musicians and local artists all thrive here. Depending on how late you arrive, you may want to hit one of the eclectic bars, for a taste of this French-speaking metropolis. Or turn in, ahead of our alfresco adventure.

This morning, we’ll escape the city and head north-west to the Laurentian Mountains, an all-season playground for Montreal locals and visitors alike. Lush, green valleys dusted with pine-tree forests give way to rivers, gentle hillsides and majestic peaks. We’re headed for Mont-Tremblant, a colourful Swiss-style town nestled by Tremblant summit and Lake Tremblant. Take a walk about and grab some lunch before we set forth on an extraordinary flight over the forest canopy. Yes, it’s zipline o’clock! After hiking through maple forest we’ll get started, attaching you to cables that weave between mountain crests. There’s nothing like the feeling of whooshing through the air, with woodland, hills and lakes unfolding beneath you. After navigating a series of zipline routes, we’ll return to Mont-Tremblant and toast our courage over cocktails and a lavish three-course meal. Sample the very finest of French-Canadian cuisine in a boutique restaurant, and say “santé!” to your Flashpacker pals.

Today, we’re exploring Mont-Tremblant National Park, an area of protected natural beauty spanning 500 square miles of forest, lakes and the Laurentian peaks. It’s also a wildlife sanctuary for over 40 mammals, including bears, wolves and moose. For the best vantage point of this unspoiled wilderness, we’ll spend the morning canoeing down Diable River. No experience is needed for this gentle and serene river ride, so sit back and soak in the magnificent views as we pass secluded beaches, silver maple forest and the incredible cliff wall of the Vache Noire. After a good few hours on the waterways, we’ll pause for lunch and then push on, with a guided hike through woodland, streams and waterfalls. Keep an eye out for native fauna, including the golden eagle and white-tailed deer. Back at the hotel, spend the evening as you wish: unwind in a nearby spa, or find a Mont-Tremblant bar for a locally-brewed ale or three.

Have an appetite handy today, as we return to Montreal for a food tour through the city’s historic heartland. We’ll discover the cobbled streets of Vieux-Montréal through its rich culinary heritage. Prepare for a mix of North American gastronomy and traditional French cooking, served with a side of European-style architecture. We’ll admire the splendour of the Notre-Dame Basilica and Old Port, before eating our way down St. Paul, the oldest street in one of North America’s oldest cities. Food stops may include anything from a beet-infused salmon gravadlax bagel to craft beer and a modern twist on poutine (Canada’s signature dish of French fries heaped with cheese curd and gravy). Then it’s time to bid farewell to this lovely city and your fellow Flashpackers, as we take a group transfer to the airport for 3pm.
